genapta has devised a set of custom integrated circuits for very fast quadrature decoding and counting applications. We use them in our own designs but realised other people might find them useful. In particular we have optimised the devices for use with a modern microcontroller, allowing multiple devices to be connected to a single controller along a simple two wire serial interface. As an illustration eight devices can be coupled to a 18 pin microcontroller costing two dollars. It contains a digital input filter and quadrature decoder with exposed outputs. This is also connected to a resettable 22-bit up/down counter and PISO shift register, allowing consistent extraction of the counter value with low interface pin counts. Both channels have digital input filters, high-speed quadrature decoders with exposed outputs. Each channel has a 12-bit up/down counter connected to a shared PISO shift register, allowing consistent extraction of the counter value with low interface pin counts. The GEN-113X is a high performance multi-purpose counter Interface IC.
The 1130 variant contains a digital input filter connected to a resettable 30-bit up/down counter and PISO shift register, allowing consistent extraction of the counter value in noisy environments.
For clean input signals the 1132 allows faster counting and as such has a larger 32 bit resettable up/down counter/PISO shift register.
Both variants have identical interfacing with low interface pin counts.
